Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

Even though the majority of the United States population loves to indulge in junk food and sweets, not many people know the many benefits that come from eating a well-balanced diet full of essential vitamins and nutrients. Many people eat for the flavor of food, but don’t realize that the purpose of eating is to provide our bodies with the different elements that it needs to function normally on a day-to-day basis. Although the body will not shut down if it does not get the essentials one day, illness can result from eating poorly over a long period of time.

Eating fruits, vegetables, and whole grains are necessary in order to promote good health, along with foods that are high in several different vitamins and minerals. Raw fruits and vegetables contain a number of elements that are very beneficial to the body, including several vitamins, potassium, and natural sugars. Antioxidants and amino acids are also in high concentrations in a number of different fruits and vegetables, and they work to promote overall health in the human body. Food nutrition is important when a long and healthy life is desired, since junk food and sweets will only cause health problems in the future.

Individuals in sports should never live off of a poor diet, because it can cause their performance to decrease. Proper sports nutrition is essential when participating in any type of vigorous activity, since the body needs to be replenished when vitamins and energy are burned during activities. Fruits can help to hydrate the body after strenuous activities that cause one to sweat, since dehydration can lead to other serious complications.

When the body is lacking the essential vitamins and nutrients that it needs, it has to use alternative sources in order to maintain health. Once those sources become depleted, the body is no longer able to function in a healthy manner. Poor diet can cause one to experience fatigue, dehydration, and a lack of energy. When proper food nutrition is followed, one will experience energy, overall health, and the ability to perform at their best. Foods high in iron, fiber, vitamins, and minerals will help to keep the body healthy and full of energy, while foods with no nutritional value will lead to obesity and other serious health conditions.

Although there are various supplements available that help to boost energy and provide the body with the essentials that it needs, it is important to provide the body with healthy food in order to keep it healthy. Vitamin supplements can help to improve certain medical conditions that may cause a lack of certain minerals that the body needs, but should only be used in addition to a healthy diet that is full of rich vitamins and nutrients. When used in conjunction with a normal exercise routine, a healthy can keep the body healthy and in great shape.

Anyone involved in sports should follow a balanced sports nutrition diet, especially if they are interested in performing at their best. Proper food nutrition will keep the body in great condition, allowing athletes to handle the strain that sports can cause. Healthy eating will help to keep the body healthy and free of disease and illness, which makes it possible to participate in sports rather than having to stay in bed. There are a number of different foods that are high in nutritional value and taste great, and eating a healthy sports nutrition diet can be exciting and full of flavor.

Ease the Struggle With Allergies

Sunday, August 22nd, 2010

Lots of people get affected by allergies everyday. For many people out there, allergies cause a major change in ones life, not to mention, it causes many illnesses in people and can be very life threatening to some others. Learning about allergies can help to live a normal life.

Allergies tend to be caused by having too much immunity; your body produces antibodies that serve the purpose of fight against infections. So what happens is someone who has an allergy is their body creates an allergy antibody and that releases a histamine that makes the symptoms of the allergy. The histamine can be released anywhere in the body. It can be released in the skin and this makes hives or itching, the nose has the symptoms of a runny or stuffy nose with sneezing, the lungs creates asthma, or throughout the entire body would even cause death if an immediate treatment wasn’t administered.

There are so many different kinds of allergies out there. Some of the more common allergies are food related, molds, mildew, pet allergies, dust mites, and pollen in the air. Food allergies are caused by eating something some include peanuts and shellfish. Mold and mildew allergies can be caused airborne or by physical contact. Pet allergies tend to be created by dander or skin scales. Dust mites are breathed in. They are every where, in your mattresses, carpets, and furniture. Pollen is caused by flowers and trees germinating.

Hay fever is another major allergy. The blowing wind sweeps up pollen from trees and grass and creates this airborne allergy. People who have hay fever can be affected at different times of the year. This is because there are plants that release pollen at different time of the year, so varying on what plants your hay fever is triggered by it could affect you in the fall, summer, or in the spring. Some of the plants that most give people problems are tumbleweed, sorrel, pigweed, goldenrod and ragweed. To help cope with hay fever, lots of local news programs show what the pollen count is in the area, make a judgment of if it’s high enough to bother some for you and take an antihistamine.

Food allergies don’t affect very many people, but they tend to be the worst allergies out of them all. Symptoms of a food allergy are things like tingling on the lips and mouth, hives, with itching, and throat swelling. If the throat swelling gets really bad it can cause constriction of the air passages, this chokes the allergy victim and can cause seizures ensuing circulatory collapse, heart failure and or death. A reaction to a food protein can happen instantaneously or around four hours later after some digestion.

The best way to prevent an allergy is to avoid the cause all together, but sometimes that’s just not the case. Sometimes they cant be avoided and in that case here are some things that can help. To help against mold allergies keep the house dry, use a dehumidifier. Clean the bathroom often with bleach and have the air ducts cleaned too.

To help with hay fever drive with your windows up in the car, keep the windows in the house closed and stay inside during the morning because that’s when pollen levels are highest. Wash your clothes and shower after being outside. And cleaning air purifier filters should help out a lot.

If you have pet allergies you should try to avoid them all together if possible. Washing your hands after contact will prevent itching or cross contaminating danders in your eyes, nose and mouth. Keep up on vacuuming. Try to make sure pets stay off of dander catching surfaces like furniture and carpets. Keep them out of the bedroom too. Another major part is not grooming and bathing your pet enough. If this is to much to handle with allergies take them to a groomers. Also keep and long haired animals trimmed shorter.

Some treatments for allergy relief include acupuncture, used to treat allergic rhinitis. It involves placing needles into the skin at exact points which help restore balance to vital flows. Allergy shots reduce your sensitivity to certain things. It is recommended for allergy sufferers who suffer more than three months out of the year and have really severe allergies. It works best for stringing insects, pet, dust, and pollen allergies. Vitamin C in large amounts can help with stabilizing the mucous membrane in the nasal passages. Various herbal treatments have used to treat allergies as well. Alternative Health Supplements offers a few different types of herbal relief. There are also some other ways to treat allergies, prescription medications and nasal sprays, and asthma inhalers are effective too.

How to make a career out of Nutrition and Fitness?

Tuesday, August 17th, 2010

I would like to make more of a career out of Nutrition and Fitness, but am unsure of a good path. I would like formal training/certification, but not necessarily a 4-year degree since I’m in my late 20s and work full time now.

If I become a nutritionist, I don’t focus as much on fitness. If I become a personal trainer/instructor, I don’t get the training in proper diet. Any suggestions on what career or certification would be a good mix of nutrition and fitness?

Sports Nutrition Products – A Marketing Invention Or A Real Need?

Saturday, August 14th, 2010

In 2003, it was reported that overall retail market for sports nutrition products, reached the value of $3.1 billion. Beverages accounted for 63 percent of sales, according to a new report Packaged Facts. However, these drinks have been marketed more for general nutrition, rather than sports benefits. Packaged Facts confirmed that physically active adults were only 10-percent more likely to use sports beverages than the general adult population.

Even if you are into sports, you’ll only need your regular diet plus plenty of water. Thus, you do not need a sport nutrition product. Right? Wrong. The need for sports and sport nutrition product

Records of antiquities show that athletics has been an integral part of earliest man’s life. Athletic life was originally meant for survival through gathering food or for self protection. Later, it developed into a contest for strength, speed, skill, and mental sharpness. With the passage of time, these activities evolved into what we now know as different forms of exercises, or sports.

Our ancestors even then, fully understand the need of our body for exercise and other forms of physical activities. They instinctively know that in order to maintain their health and further developed their physical whole being, they need to have some activities. And from this early, they understand the need for a special food, the modern version of which is our sport nutrition product.

Basic dietary patterns of our ancestors

Evidences about prehistoric people’s diets can be glimpsed from the artifacts used in food preparation such as milling, baking, and ultimately cooking. From these bits of information, we are informed that the basic diet of early Greeks and Romans for instance was a perfect combination of plant and animal products. They ate several variety of cereals, vegetables, fruits (fresh and dried), and lots of wine (usually diluted with water in varying degree).

Early Greeks’ main meat source is that of goats. In Italy it was pork meat products specially bacon. Beef was occasionally eaten, particularly after sacrifices in numerous temples. Milk, and perhaps milk product, was a very popular food. Fish and poultry were also part of the regular diet. The slight difference of these early people with our modern diet is that olive oil was consumed in greater volume than butter. The oil was also a main source for household lighting.

Combined with good sport nutrition product, this diet, a formula made thousands of years ago, is a perfect dietary program for a modern sports man. Our ancestors knew then, that although foods abound in nature, there are several nutritional sources that fit better a healthy lifestyle.

Sports nutrition product

Fast forward into our modern setting. It is important for athletes to have good nutrition for maximum strength, optimum agility, endurance, and improved overall performance. The foundation for any successful athletic program is a good combination of a well-thought based on whole foods (veggies, fruits, whole grains, and proteins, remember the Greeks?) supplemented with a special sport nutrition product, and course a good regimen of exercise.

While it is true that dedication, good training techniques, and genetics are still the main element in an athlete’s effectiveness, the lack of a proper nutrition coupled with the absence of nutritional supplement like sport nutrition product can inhibit an athlete’s performance in any other forms of exercise.

Without a good eating habits combined with sport nutrition product, pre-games and competitions proper may end disastrously. Optimal nutrition is only attainable with perfect dietary practice, combined with sport nutrition product as important element. It is only thru a sustained adherence to this good combination of regimen and sport nutrition product that a stellar performance is assured.

But at least this is a start. It would still take a while before people realized that a good and sound body is never possible only by eating traditional foods, but by following a particular sports, combined with healthy food, and of course, with sport nutrition product.

We should learn from the early Greeks and Romans. By experience, they have learned that involving in a regular physical activities and consuming a well-balanced nutrition can result in a long and fruitful life.
